descriptor words in stories access the limbic system, causing you to basically perceive words in a similar way you would access memories. so when characters are hurt or die in stories, especially if you’ve gathered enough emotional attachment (which hey, is real. you are actually emotionally attached to this character thanks to your *~BRAIN~*), it is like your most loved grandmother dying on you.
